Ceramic Materials and Food Safety

Ceramic materials are among the products coming into direct contact with food, and ensuring the safety of such products is of paramount importance. Parallel to EU Council Directive 84/500/EEC, the Turkish Food Codex Communiqué on Ceramic Articles Intended to Come into Contact with Foodstuff (Communiqué No: 2012/30) establishes the analysis processes for ceramic products.

In accordance with this communiqué, special analyses are performed to determine the potential migration of lead and cadmium from ceramic materials into food.

Required Characteristics for Ceramic Materials:

  • Migration of harmful chemicals into food must be prevented.
  • The risk of hazardous substances such as lead and cadmium transferring from ceramic materials to food must be kept under control.

Oxigen Analysis Laboratory performs these critical analyses on ceramic materials in compliance with the communiqué in its ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory equipped with modern instruments. Accurate and reliable results are obtained using ICP-MS instruments during testing.
